By Our Correspondent,Charikot, Nov. 29: Tourists are attracted to Shailung Mini Great Wall, which is currently under construction in Shailung Rural Municipality, Dolakha district.
Although the project has only begun, it has already emerged as a popular destination for visitors.
These days, tourists enjoy walking along the Great Wall, which stretches across the Shailung mountain, which is rich in mesmerizing natural beauty.
Rimal Babu Shrestha, Chairman of Shailung Rural Municipality, said that the number of tourists visiting Shailung has significantly increased in recent days.
Apart from walking along the Great Wall, both domestic and foreign visitors come to Shailung for meditation, study, research, and sightseeing. A large number of tourists are particularly seen during holidays.
He added that the Great Wall is being constructed with a joint investment from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Shailung Rural Municipality. The federal government has funded 70 per cent to the project while the rural municipality has provided 30 per cent construction cost.
According to the municipality, Rs. 49.4 million has been spent on constructing the 500-metre-long section of the Great Wall in its initial phase. There are plans to extend it to one kilometre, from Kalapani to Danfe Dhunga in Shailung Rural Municipality.
Chairman Shrestha also said that the Bagmati Province government has allocated Rs. 18 million for the construction of the Great Wall and for tourism promotion.
The beauty of the Shailung Great Wall and its natural surroundings are drawing more foreign tourists. Many international travelers have started including Shailung Mountain in their annual itineraries.
With support from the federal government, the rural municipality aims to develop Shailung as a major tourist hub at both national and international levels.
From Kathmandu, visitors can reach Shailung Danda via Mude in Sindhupalchowk and walk along the Mini Great Wall. Improved roads have made the journey easier and more comfortable.
Tourists argue that the mountains, greenery, local settlements, religious sites, and cultural experiences along the route make the trip memorable.
The Shailung Great Wall has given new momentum to Dolakha’s tourism sector. According to the municipality, the project is developing not only physical infrastructure but also boosting local economic activities, including hotels, transportation, and handicrafts.
Local representatives believe that once this project, carried out in collaboration with local and federal governments, is completed, Shailung will be established as a prominent national and international tourist destination, in addition to being a religious site.
