Siraha, Nov 11: The unseasonal rainfall caused by the Montha cyclone has damaged paddy planted in more than 10,000 hectares of land in the district.

The agriculture sections of eight municipalities and nine rural municipalities collected the details on the damages and made public the initial report that paddy cultivated in 10,728 hectares of land was damaged by the unseasonal rainfall.

Lahan municipality suffered worst by the rains which destroyed the crops in 2,232 hectares of land, followed by Aurahi municipality and Naraha municipality.

Agriculture section Chief at Lahan municipality, Prakash Sah, informed that the farmers had planted the rice of improved species and the ones resilient to drought. Even the rice of Basmati species was planted by them in a bid to secure better prices.

The production will now reduce much after the damage. The paddy seeds rot after the plant nearing harvest time declined to the surface in the wake of rains and storm. (RSS)
