Dolakha, Nov 3: Three persons, including two Nepali guides, died while eight others went missing in an avalanche occurred at the Yalungri base camp in Rolwaling area of Gaurishankar rural municipality-9 on Monday morning.
A foreign climber and two Nepali guides in an expedition to the Gaurishankar and Rolwaling peaks died in the avalanche occurred about 9:00 am Monday, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gyan Kumar Mahato.
There were as many as 15 foreign climbers along with Nepali guides in the team. Further detail on the incident is, however, awaited.
Ward Chair Nimgeli Sherpa informed that although the administration was urged early about the incident, rescue operation was delayed. The Rolwaling area is a prohibited zone for flying chopper, which also caused delay in allowing the rescue effort, he added.
Search for the missing ones is continued. Police also admitted that although helicopter was sent towards the accident site for search and rescue of the missing ones, it failed to reach the site owing to adverse weather.
In addition, a joint squad of the Nepali Army, the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force has left for the incident site, according to DSP Mahato. (RSS)
