Media role crucial for creating electoral atmosphere: Officiating CEC Bhandari

Kathmandu, Nov 3: Officiating Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ram Prasad Bhandari has said the role of the media is crucial in creating an atmosphere conducive to elections.

During a discussion with the RSS today, in regard with the upcoming House of Representatives election announced for March 5, 2026, he urged the media to disseminate factual and credible information to citizens, including those in remote areas, raising awareness about the significance and necessity of the election.

"The role of the RSS, which serves as the country’s sole national news agency, is particularly vital in contributing to the creation of an environment for the successful conduct of the election," he said, adding that the Election Commission is confident that the RSS will fulfill its role as it did in previous elections.

The Officiating CEC further added that this election is being held under a special situation, requiring the timely and credible dissemination of information on electoral preparations, citizen security, and voter education, the essential factors for creating the conditions necessary to conduct a successful election.

The discussion, which was also attended by Election Commissioners Dr Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Sagun Shumsher JB Rana, as well as Commission Secretary Mahadev Pantha, focused on enhancing collaboration between the RSS and the Election Commission to conduct the election in a free, impartial, and fearless atmosphere.

On the occasion, RSS General Manager Sandip Rai stated that the RSS has been continuously performing its role from its respective capacity in support of the electoral process, which he described as the "life of democracy."
