By Harikrishna Aidi,Mugu, Nov. 3: The voter registration in Mugu district has shown minimal progress, said the District Election office, Mugu.
Acting on the recommendation of the interim government formed under in the wake of Gen -Z movement, President Ramchandra Paudel dissolved the House of Representatives (HoR) on September 13 and announced elections for March 5, 2026.
The Election Commission instructed the District Election Offices across the country to begin voter registration from September 26.
However, so far only 77 new voters (43 men and 34 women) have registered their name in the voter’s list in Mugu.
Of these, 72 are expected to vote within the district, while five plan to cast their votes outside the district.
Deputy Chief of the Mugu District Election Office, Dhankrishna Baduwal said despite sending three rounds of notifications to the district’s four municipalities, public participation has remained low.
He also noted that political parties need to assist in raising awareness and encouraging citizens to register.
Rup Bahadur Malla, coordinator of the district civil society, suggested that establishing a voter’s registration station at the District Administration Office could further increase voter enrolment and benefit more locals.
The Election Commission has urged all eligible voters to register promptly to ensure their participation in the upcoming elections.
