Kathmandu, Nov 2: The Ministry of Home Affairs and Policy Research Institute have held discussions on granting voting rights to Nepali citizens living abroad.
The meeting held here today was attended by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Home Secretary Rameshwor Dangal, Joint Secretary of the Law Division under the Ministry and Executive Chair of the Institute Prof Dr Lekhnath Sharma and Dr Deepak Khadka.
The meeting discussed the possibility of voting from abroad, voter rolls, voting process and the necessary mechanisms, laws and other requirements to make it possible.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that the Institute had been invited for preliminary discussions on the existing legal situation regarding voting by citizens living abroad, implementation experiences of other countries and challenges.
Home Minister Aryal's secretariat has stated that the voting process abroad, possible security challenges, required human resources, and the political environment that needs to be created for its implementation were also discussed.(RSS)
