Urban Development Minister pledges to make all major rivers of capital city pollution-free

Kathmandu, Nov 1: As the Bagmati River Cleanup Campaign completes its 651st week on Saturday, the Minister for Urban Development has pledged to ensure sewage management and develop the water treatment centres in all needed spots.     

During a programme organized by the High-Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilization in the capital city on Saturday, Minister for Urban Development Kulman Ghising shared that all major rivers of the Kathmandu Valley (Rudramati, Bishnumati and Manamati) will be made neat and clean for a dip adding that the government would pay heed to the rivers' cleanliness since the Bagmati civilization was vital to the city.     

On the occasion, Minister Ghising argued that awareness should be created to control pollution in the rivers.     

Minister Ghising shared that a master plan is being developed to make the Kathmandu City more beautiful and added that the plan would mention activities that could be done along the river corridors.     

Likewise, Urban Development Secretary Gopal Prasad Sigdel said that continuous efforts for 13 years for rivers' cleanup in the Kathmandu Valley were a matter of pride.     

Also speaking at the event, chief campaigner of the cleanup campaign and former Chief Secretary Leelamani Paudyal said that the cleanup campaign was launched for national awakening. He stated that the rivers in the city still could not be clean as all three levels of government did not pay much attention.     

Mayor of Kageshwori Manohara Municipality Upendra Karki and Mayor of Gokarneshwor Municipality Dipak Risal called for restructuring of the Committee for better result in the cleanup campaigns.(RSS)
