Mechi Highway remains blocked for three days

 (Ilam), Nov 1: The Mechi Highway remains blocked for traffic due to incessant rain since Thursday. Though efforts are being made to open the blocked road after a landslide occurred in the Ilam-Rajduwali section of the highway in Ilam Municipality-9 it has not been possible due to continuous downpour.

According to Pawan Bhattarai, Chief of the Road Division Office, the landslide has not stopped thought we been working day and night to open the road.

Due to the blockage of the Highway, travelers from Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung and Jhapa have been affected. Vehicles going from Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung to Jhapa have been stopped at Golakharka Bhanjyang, and vehicles going from Jhapa to Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung have been stopped at Maikhola.

Travelers traveling from Ilam to Jhapa have also been affected after the bridge over Maikhola at Belase under the Mechi Corridor (Kechana-Kanchenjunga Road) was damaged by the floods. Likewise, the diversion of Jogmai Khola under the Tilkeni-Simalgolai Road was damaged by the flood waters on Thursday. (RSS)
