Kathmandu, Oct 31: Sundarharaincha in Morang received the highest rainfall of 210 millimetres in the last 24 hours due to the influence of the Montha cyclone.
According to the precipitation data shared by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Barmajiya in Saptari received 143 millimetres of rainfall. The impact of Cyclone Montha is currently more in Madhesh Province and Koshi Province, said the Department's information officer Dinakar Kayastha.
Rainfall is taking place and the skies are overcast in Bagmati and other provinces as well due to the Cyclone Montha's influence.
Kayastha said this amount of precipitation is classified as 'heavy rain'. If rainfall exceeds 200 millimetres, it is classified as extremely heavy rainfall.
According to Information Officer Kayastha, heavy rainfall has occurred in many districts in the last 24 hours.
Jhapa and Udayapur have received 93.6 and 97.6 millimetres of rainfall respectively. More than two dozen rainfall measurement centres have recorded rainfall between 50 and 80 millimetres. Lalitpur received 72 millimetres and Kathmandu 40 millimetres of rainfall.
"The cyclone 'Mocha' that developed in the Bay of Bengal is currently in the form of a low-pressure area around Madhya Pradesh, India, and due to this system, the weather in Nepal will be affected until this evening. Afterwards, it is expected to gradually improve," said Information Officer Kayastha.
The Westerly wind and the low-pressure system that has developed over the Arabian Sea also have their partial influence in Nepal at present. The weather is generally to mostly cloudy throughout the country.
Light to moderate rainfall is taking place in many areas of Koshi Province, Madhesh Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province, and in some places of Lumbini Province, while very heavy rainfall is taking place in some other places of these provinces. (RSS)
