Three gold snatchers, two jewellery owners held

Kathmandu, Oct. 31: Police have arrested five persons accused of stealing and snatching gold chains from various locations across the Kathmandu Valley.

According to police, those arrested include Raj Lama, 28, of Harihargadhi Rural Municipality–6, Sindhuli, currently residing in Tin Dhare, Suryabinayak Municipality–5, Bhaktapur; Durga Bahadur Magar, alias Bishal, 20, of Taple Rural Municipality–4, Udayapur, living in Bhaktapur; and Dil Bahadur BK, 32, of Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality–6, Ramechhap, owner of Shree Laxmi Jewellers in Sallaghari, Changunarayan Municipality–2, Bhaktapur.

Similarly, police also arrested Govinda Sunar, 40, owner of Baglung Kalika Jewellers in Saraswati Nagar, Budhanilkantha Municipality–6, Kathmandu, originally from Galkot Municipality-2, Baglung; and Dipesh Rasaili, 22, son of Santosh Sunar, owner of Manu Gems and Jewellers in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-22, originally from Lamkichuha Municipality–7, Kailali.

Police investigation revealed that Lama drove the motorcycle while Magar snatched the gold chains from the victims. BK was allegedly involved in selling the gold, while Sunar and Rasaili were buyers of the looted items.

The suspects were arrested by a police team deployed from the Swoyambhu Police Circle, according to SP Pawan Kumar Bhattarai of the Kathmandu District Police Range. 

Police have obtained an eight-day remand from the Kathmandu District Court to continue the investigation under theft-related offenses.

During the arrest, authorities seized the motorcycle used in the snatching of gold ornaments and cash from the suspects.
