Tanahun, Oct. 31: The Kshatriya Society of Vyas Municipality, Tanahun, has raised around Rs. 400,000 through a Deusi–Bhailo cultural event aimed at funding the renovation of the district Chhetri Society’s building and establishing a museum.
Organised with the objective of reviving fading traditions and preserving indigenous culture, the event showcased the vibrant living heritage of Tanahun.
The participants, dressed in Dhaka topi, daura suruwal, thin patuki (traditional sash), and garlands of marigold performed traditional Deusi songs to the rhythmic beats of madal drums. Local spectators expressed delight at witnessing such an authentic and culturally rich performance.
According to the Chairman of the Vyas Municipal Committee, Shankar Adhikari, nearly Rs.4 00,000 has already been collected, and contributions are still coming in.
“We organised this event not merely for entertainment, but for a collective social and cultural cause,” said Adhikari. “In many places, the money raised from Deusi programmes is spent on feasts or personal expenses, but we have successfully turned it into a contribution to our community and culture.”
Similarly, Hari Karki, Secretary of the Tanahun District Kshatriya Society, described the Deusi–Bhailo as “a symbolof culture, unity, and responsibility.”
“Our society has set an example by preserving our fading traditions and contributing to the community through them. This is our true identity and pride,” he said.
According to campaigner Devi Bahadur Basnet, the collected funds will be used transparently for the renovation and museum construction works.
“We aim to establish a museum to help future generations understand their own history and cultural identity,” he stated.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from local leaders, intellectuals, youths, and women’s groups. The performance of Deusi–Bhailo is expected to strengthen cultural and communal harmony within Tanahun, the Society added.
