By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct 28: Professor Balmukunda Regmi of Tribhuvan University has been honored by Sichuan Normal University, China.
In recognition of his contributions in promoting Nepal-China cultural relations, the University offered professorship in an international seminar, held in Chengdu, China.
The honour was offered during an academic seminar on the theory and practice of building international communication capabilities and a symposium marking the third anniversary of the "China-Nepal Railway and South Asia Exchange" official account at Sichuan Normal University, according to the organiser.
The event held on September 27 was co-organized by the School of Chinese Traditional Culture, the Internet College (Sichuan Internet College), the School of International Chinese Education, and the School of Journalism and Communication at Tibet University for Nationalities.
Over 60 experts and scholars from Nepali and domestic universities and media organizations engaged in in-depth discussions on approaches to building international communication capabilities and operating official accounts. Guo Zhaohui, Standing Committee Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of Sichuan Normal University, attended the event and delivered a speech.
In his speech, Guo Zhaohui emphasized that strengthening international communication and telling China's story well is a systematic undertaking.
Over the past three years, the "China-Nepal Railway and South Asia Exchange" official account has published 106 episodes, achieving the "four cross-disciplinary" goals of inter-university, inter-province, inter-national, and inter-disciplinary collaboration. This has helped shift communication from one-way propaganda to two-way dialogue, from grand narratives to micro-insights, building consensus through sincere communication, and demonstrating sustained effort and a clear direction.
At the meeting, Guo Chaohui presented a visiting professorship of Traditional Chinese Culture certificate from Sichuan Normal University to Professor Regmi, one of the founders of the WeChat official account and a professor at Tribhuvan University in Nepal. Executive director of TU Centre for Nepal and Asian Studies (CNAS) Professor Mrigendra Bahadur Karki and economist Dr Bimala Dahal were also present in the program from Nepal side.
Professor Sun Yong, co-founder of the WeChat official account and director of the West China Borderland Research Institute at Sichuan Normal University, presented the WeChat official account's development and achievements over the past three years. Experts and scholars from universities including Tribhuvan University in Nepal, Sichuan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Tibet University for Nationalities, Sichuan University for Nationalities, Sichuan University of Arts and Sciences, Xihua University, and Chengdu University, as well as media professionals, engaged in a lively discussion on enhancing international communication capabilities and new media innovation paths, drawing on practical examples from WeChat official accounts.
Experts and scholars from the Propaganda Department, the United Front Work Department, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, the Journal Center, the School of Traditional Chinese Culture, the West China Borderland Research Institute, the Internet Academy (Sichuan Internet Academy), the School of International Chinese Education, the School of Marxism, and the School of Geography and Resources Sciences of Sichuan Normal University attended the meeting and delivered speeches.
