Kathmandu, Oct 16: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr Madan Prasad Pariyar, has stressed that agricultural land should be protected as food security is considered as the matter of the national security.
In a message on the occasion of 45th World Food Day today, Minister Pariyar emphasized the need of commercializing and modernizing agriculture sector by using the available land properly.
Stating that making the people feel about the food security through increasing production and productivity is the main challenge of the present hour, he mentioned that various events were organised at leadership of the Ministry and coordination of Department of Agriculture under the theme 'Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future'.
Minister Pariyar added World Food Day is observed world-wide on October 16 every year for the collective efforts and solidarity to face challenges like malnutrition and starvation. Nepal has started observing the World Food Day since 2038 BS.
Out of around 4.13 million farmer families in the country, 55 per cent of them do not have enough food for a year, reads the message. (RSS)
