By Our Correspondent,Tulshipur, Oct. 12: This year, Dang district will have an ample supply of marigold flowers for the Tihar festival. Farmers from Tulshipur, Ghorahi, and Lamahi areas have produced enough blooms to meet the local demand. It is estimated that around 90 quintals of marigolds will be harvested in the district this festive season.
According to flower entrepreneur Buddhiraj Paudel, who has been cultivating marigolds for the past seven years, approximately 30 quintals of flowers are consumed in Dang during Tihar. The district also exports marigolds to neighbouring Rupandehi and Banke districts.
Paudel has cultivated marigolds on eight katthas of land and said the current market price is around Rs. 350 per kilogram.
Similarly, Green Foundation Nepal, based in Tulshipur-8, has also cultivated marigolds this year. The foundation’s farm manager, Ganesh Bhandari, informed that they expect to produce around five quintals of flowers.
Meanwhile, local governments in Ghorahi, Tulshipur, Lamahi and Rapti Rural Municipality have continued their long-standing ban on the sale and distribution of plastic garlands.
Lamahi Municipality, in coordination with local flower farmers, has decided to strictly enforce the ban again this year.
The municipality recently issued a public notice, listing local flower growers and urging locals to use natural marigold garlands instead of plastic ones during the festival.
A field in Tulshipur-9, cultivated by Buddhiraj Paudel, is now in full bloom. There are rows of vibrant marigolds ready to decorate homes and temples across the district this Tihar.
