Birgunj receives highest rainfall in past 12 hours

Kathmandu, Oct 4: The monsoon has intensified with the arrival of monsoon winds from the Bay of Bengal, bringing widespread rainfall across the country since Friday. In the past 12 hours, Birgunj in Parsa district received the highest rainfall.     

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Birgunj recorded 143 millimeters of rain in the past 12 hours, followed by 140.4 mm in Bara, 129 mm in Gaur of Rautahat, and 124 mm in Maheshpur of Rautahat. The rainfall in Bara and Parsa was reported to be very heavy. The Division stated that the central region of the country experienced the maximum rainfall, which extended from Nawalparasi to Dhankuta in the east.     

During this period, 14 districts ranging from Sindhupalchowk to Dolakha, including the Kathmandu Valley, received over 50 mm of rainfall. Additionally, more than 50 meteorological stations across various parts of the country recorded rainfall between 30 and 50 mm.     

The monsoon winds arriving from the Bay of Bengal have caused this rainfall, and another system is likely to become active soon, triggering more precipitation tonight in various parts of the country.(RSS)
