Kathmandu, Oct 4: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, as well as Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport; and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, has urged employees of all relevant bodies to remain on standby for disaster preparedness.
In a meeting held today with ministry officials and heads of subordinate agencies, the Minister emphasized the need for protecting roads, irrigation systems, and hydropower structures from potential damage from the monsoon-triggered floods and landslides.
"Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely from late this evening through Sunday morning in various parts of the country," he said, citing information from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. The Minister also stressed that budgetary constraints should not be used as an excuse to avoid taking necessary steps to protect physical infrastructure. (RSS)
