Kathmandu, Oct 3: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has directed the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, the Provincial Disaster Management Committee, the District Disaster Management Committee and the Local Disaster Management Committees to show high alertness in disaster preparedness and response.
The Prime Minister's Personal Secretariat issued a statement today urging the bodies concerned to contribute to reducing possible risks from disasters by effectively managing disaster preparedness, response, search and rescue, relief, and rehabilitation activities.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy rainfall and extremely heavy rainfall at some areas from October 3-6 in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, and in view of this the Secretariat has urged citizens living in risk-prone areas to adopt high precaution.
"As part of the preparedness, the residents of areas that may potentially be flooded are requested to move to higher and safer locations, to make special arrangements to transfer pregnant women, children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and seriously ill patients to safe locations, and not to travel to specified locations as per the notices issued by the government authorities," the Secretariat said in a statement it issued today.
