Kathmandu, Sept 28: The Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal, has urged the Minister for Home Affairs and the Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, saying security threats to hydropower projects have increased in recent period.
Writing a letter to both ministers today, IPPAN President Ganesh Karki demanded the government ensured security to hydropower projects as activities are underway to demand 10 per cent service charge on completed projects, the under construction projects and projects going to be constructed soon, against the government's policy and law and obstructing the projects in recent period.
It asked the government to create environment conducive for investment keeping the necessity and importance of energy sector in mind as hydropower sector is the major and important sector for Nepal's economic prosperity.
Bhotekoshi power house has remained close for the past 17 days after 10 per cent share of 45-megawatt Bhotekoshi hydropower projects was demanded free of cost in the name of Gen-Z at Bhotekoshi rural municipality, reads the letter.
Similarly, the hydropower project has been bearing a loss of around 9.8 million everyday due to this.
Likewise, letter has been sent to 10 hydropower projects demanding free share in the name of locals of Jugal rural municipality in Sindhupalchowk and asked the ministries to maintain law and order.(RSS)
