Kathmandu, Sept 26: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has expressed commitment that the ministry would work for the effective implementation of the right to information.
Receiving a memorandum submitted by the National Federation for Right to Information at the Ministry today, Minister Kharel mentioned that emphasis would be laid on practical and effective implementation of RTI, as activities could be carried out to lessen corruption through the use of RTI.
He shared that a discussion would be held after Dashain, calling all bodies concerned onthe RTI matter.
The Federation demanded a guarantee of responsible and competent leadership in RTI promotion by reviewing and necessary restructuring the office-bearers of the National Information Commission.
Federation President Umid Bagchand opined that an arrangement should be implemented to provide information to citizens smoothly, quickly and at minimal cost by simplifying the process of providing information.
Making monitoring mechanism of the ministry effective in order to strictly follow transparency and accountability, forwarding concrete action plan by public bodies to control corruption and introducing programme of good governance to win the trust of Gen-Z are also the demands put forth by the Federation.
The memo signed by Federation President Bagchand and General-Secretary Purna Prasad Mishra also asked to make policy and legal arrangements to ask for and get information easily by citizens, promoting RTI, as the activities of the National Vigilance Centre and Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority failed to bring tangible results in the fight against corruption.
