news_content: Jhapa, Sept 24: A total of 91 detainees who escaped from the custody of the Area Police Offices in Birtamod, Damak and Jhiljhile are still missing.
Only one of the 92 detainees who were in police custody has returned since they escaped following the vandalism and arson that took place in the wake of Gen-Z protests across the country. The search for the rest is underway, said Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, Information Officer of the District Police Office.
Police have stated that 51 detainees from the Anarmani Area Police Office in Birtamod, 36 from Damak and five from Jhiljhile offices escaped during the Gen-Z movement.
Meanwhile, most of the weapons looted from the Area Police Offices in Birtamod and Damak on September 9 have been returned. Out of the 99 stolen weapons, 75 have been returned safely, while 24 have not yet been returned.
The recovered weapons include 11 SLRs, 26 INSAS rifles, 18 303 rifles, five shotguns, six revolvers and three SMGs, among others, according to the District Police Office. Information Officer Khadka said that a man hunt is underway for the absconding detainees and the stolen weapons.
