By Purushottam Subedi, Paschim Nawalparasi, Sept 23: Banana farmers in Paschim Nawalparasi have become agitated saying their products, bananas, have been barred from reaching the market due to huge imports from India.
Lakkhu Prasad Yadav, Chairperson of Nawalparasi Banana Producer Association,
said they would opt for stringent protest if their demands are not met.
As banana has been imported in a cheap price from India, Nepali bananas
have lost market and the farmers here are facing a grave financial crisis due
to failure to get reasonable price and market for their produce.
The upcoming protest programmes include throwing their products,
bananas on the road as protest and barring India number plates trucks carrying
bananas to move in Nepal.
They have demanded to control banana imports from India so that domestic products get the market.
