Kathmandu, Sept 22: Six major roadways across the country have remained completely disrupted at present while 169 are operational one-way, according to the Department of Roads.

Floods and landslides have blocked and damaged the roads, the Department confirmed.

As informed by the Department's Spokesperson Prabhat Kumar Jha, the Kathmandu-Dhulikhel-Dolalghat-Khadichaur-Kodari (Araniki Highway) is likely to be restored by this evening. Road enhancement works are being carried out in view of the people's increased need for travel during the Dashain festival.

Likewise, the Prithvi Highway that resumed on Sunday evening after it was blocked by the landslide is to remain shut for two hours today for removal of debris.

The roadways stretching from Thori to Malekhu via Bhandara and the Galchhi-Trishuli-Betrawati-Mailung-Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi are among the roads disrupted by the July 29 flood in Rasuwa.

Excavator- assisted efforts are going to restore the road condition.

Moreover, the traffic along the Rani/Biratnagar to Hile via Itahari-Dharan and Dhankuta, Leghuawaghat-Kimathanka (Koshi Highway), Tamor Corridor have remained disrupted due to disasters triggered by the rains.

Department's information officer Amit Kumar Sharma said the road with the defects in a total of 400,000 square meters across the country needed repair. The road improvement efforts targeting the Dashain festival are underway with priorities, he added. (RSS)
