Kathmandu, Sept 19: Former Prime Ministers and leaders of different political parties have extended best wishes to all Nepalis on the occasion of the Constitution Day.
In a message of best wishes today, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has pointed out the need of strong unity among all republican, democratic and change-loving forces.
Saying only an advanced democracy is the alternative to democracy, he opined that protecting nation's independency through safeguarding constitution and democracy is the shared responsibility of all Nepalis.
The time has demanded further expansion and revision in the continuity of constitution, mentioned Chair Dahal, urging all party's entire rank and file as well as public to involve in nation-wide reconstruction giving the top priority.
Chair Dahal shared that the CPN (Maoist Centre) demands the government to form an independent, impartial and high-level probe commission to investigation into incidents occurred on September 8 and 9 and bring the guilty under the ambit of law.
"I believe that Gen-Z protest was not against democracy, but against the status quo and ad hoc governance system and in favour of advanced democracy. Despite this, the agitation held on September 8 and 9 should not be looked from the same perspective. September 8 agitation was the real Gen-Z protest," reads the message.
Constitution is an important achievement of democratic movements: Deuba
Similarly, Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba argued that the constitution is the one of the important achievements of revolution, struggle and democratic movement launched by the Nepali people time and again.
In the message of best wishes today, he shared that the constitution, promulgated through the Constituent Assembly on Asoj 3, 2072 BS under the leadership of the Nepali Congress, has guaranteed rights of all by adopting universal values of democracy, human rights and social justice.
Highly respecting the devotion and sacrifice of all known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives in different movements launched for democracy, republic in the country, NC President Deuba paid tribute to them.
Leader Nepal stresses on forging ahead reviewing weaknesses of constitution
Likewise, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chair and former Prime Minister, Madhav Kumar Nepal, stressed the need of moving ahead by reviewing the weaknesses seen in course of constitution implementation.
In the message, he opined, "Socio-economic transformation is necessary in the country by ending corruption, ensuring good governance and creating employment along with peace, stability and development."
Competitive multi-party governance system, fundamental rights, human rights, voting rights, periodic election, press freedom, independent and capable judiciary are the characteristics of our constitution, Chair Nepal viewed.
"Though big changes and improvements have been made in country's state structures and governance after the promulgation of the constitution, the journey of building a prosperous nation with good governance and economic prosperity has not gained the expected momentum," reads the message.
He also paid tribute to all who sacrificed their lives in different movements launched for the establishment of democracy, republicanism as well as recently launched Gen-Z protest. (RSS)
