Kathmandu, Sept 13: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers at Singha Durbar was damaged in the arson that took place on the second day of the Gen-Z protests. Hence, a new office is being prepared for the newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki in a new building.
Security personnel including the Nepal Army and civil servants are working to set up the office by installing the furniture and computers saved from the arson in the OPMCM to the new building constructed for the Ministry of Home Affairs in the northwest part of Singha Durbar, the major administrative block of the country.
Tables, chairs, sofas, and computers that survived the arson and vandalism at the old Prime Minister's Office are being shifted to the new office since this morning.
The fire is still burning in the western part of the main building of Singha Durbar on the fifth day after the arson. Burnt vehicles, documents, and other materials are scattered throughout the premises of most of the ministries that were vandalized and set on fire.
Meanwhile, in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, which suffered the most damage due to arson and vandalism, a large number of employees under the leadership of Secretary Chudamani Poudel have spontaneously engaged in cleaning and waste management today, even it is Saturday, a public holiday. Like other ministries, vehicles of the Ministry of Education have been limited to skeletons in premises of the Ministry.
Joint Secretary Shiva Kumar Sapkota, spokesperson of the ministry, who has been engaged in cleaning since 8 am this morning, said that efforts have been made to conduct daily operations by deploying the ministry's employees for cleaning and waste management.
"A team has been formed to assess the damage and the work is expected to help restore the office to its original condition in places where there is no structural damage," he said. (RSS)
