Need to implement integrity policy in politics: NA chair Dahal

Kathmandu, Aug 27: National Assembly chair, Narayan Prasad Dahal, has stressed on the importance of implementing an integrity policy in politics.

Addressing the discussion on the study report on the national integrity policy, 2082 BS, organized here today by the Development, Economic, Affairs, and Good Governance Committee under the NA, he emphasized that under the current circumstances where moral values have not been applied in the politics everyone's attention should be directed towards establishing it.     

"The involvement of political parties is there in law-making, budget-making process of the country, economic, social, and infrastructure development; integrity can only be applied in these areas if political morality is practiced strongly," Dahal said.     

Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee President, Maya Prasad Sharma, emphasized the need for effective implementation of the policy after a discussion in the house.     

Similarly, MP Bamdev Gautam pointed out the necessity of preparing the required structure for the implementation of any policy or programme and highlighted the need for law-making to promote good governance and ethics.     

MP Jitjung Basnet expressed that moral character is essential for lawmakers before the policy is implemented, and they should be able to transform accordingly. MPs Bishnu Bahadur BK, Urmila Aryal, Ghanashyam Rijal, Narayan Datta Bhatt, and Sabitri Malla stressed the importance of ethical policies for building an advanced society.     

Committee Secretary Dr Rojnath Pandey clarified that the goal is to introduce a policy that institutionalizes ethical practices to build a civilized society, making integrity an integral part of lifestyle, and promoting good governance. (RSS)
