Dhanusha, Aug 1: The opposition parties in Madhes Province government have drawn the attention of the government to take immediate measures for effective response to drought in the region.
A team led by former Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav met Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh and submitted a memorandum before him on Friday. In the memorandum, they demanded immediate irrigation facility in the drought-hit area along with subsidized agriculture loan, proper distribution of chemical fertilizers and supply of drinking water.
A long-term plan was essential for water conservation in Madhes, they argued, adding that excessive exploitation of Chure region needs ceasing. The groundwater must be protected and reservoirs constructed.
The government must not stay mute to this increasing problem, the opposition party lawmakers stressed, adding that locals were complaining that the installation of boring was full of hassles and discrimination. Repair of canals is equally significant for irrigation system.
If the government fails to respond on time, the opposition parties would be forced to take to street, Yadav warned.(RSS)
