Snow leopard victims provided relief amount in Upper Mustang

Mustang, July 19: Livestock farmers suffering from leopard attack have been provided relief amount for the loss. 

The Nationalature Conservation Trust, the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) and the Area Conservation Office, Lhomangthang distributed the relief amount to the farmers from upper Mustang.

Chief of ACAP Lhomanthang Office, Umesh Paudel, informed that Rs 1.1 million was distributed in relief to the farmers which incurred loss in their livestock due to leopard attack in the last fiscal year. 

Out of the total, 43 percent of the loss in attack was provided as relief while remaining amount as additional assistance. 

The Office is making preparation to ensure relief amount within few months of the loss caused to livestock. The Office issued notice frequently for the farmers to claim compensation.

He further informed that a human-wildlife conflict fund was being set up in the wake of rising number of incidents. The National Park and Wildlife Department provided the relief amount through ACAP. It is provided as per Wildlife Loss Directive, 2080. (RSS)
