Diversity in dance and music fosters national unity: President Paudel

Kathmandu, June 25: President Ramchandra Paudel has said diversity in Nepal's ethnicities and their cultures including song, dance and music have contributed to strengthening of national unity. It has kept intact social harmony, he argued.     

Addressing the award handover ceremony organized by the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama in the federal capital on Wednesday, President Paudel reminded that music and drama were not mere entertainment but heritage and reflection of the identity of diverse communities.     

Preservation and promotion of original culture, language, drama and music are imperative, the President said, adding that Nepal's indigenous cultures have drawn world's attention.     

The Head of the State said, "I want to draw the attention of all Nepali living across the globe to contribute from their sides for the preservation of Nepali cultures. I wish Nepal's drama and music became mater of study for the global researchers."     

Establishment of various academies like the Academy of Music and Drama was possible with the shift in state's perspective towards art following the political change, he reminded. "Preservation of art and culture is the preservation of nation's soul."     

Also the talents in drama and music deserve respect from State, Paudel stressed.     

On the occasion, various personalities contributing to music and drama were honoured. They were singer Deep Shrestha, theatre artist Hari Bahadur Thapa, singer Kunti Moktan, theatre artist Bed Kumari Neupane, dance director Bhuvan Das Shrestha, folk singer Narayan Rayamajhi, classical musician Kuleshwor Rai and musical instrument player Raju Agrawal.(RSS)
