Poet Lumumbu awarded

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 24: Poet Shashi Lumumbu has been honoured with the ‘Hong Kong Sahityik Sajha Shrinkhala Puraskar 2025 (Hongkong Literary Collective Series Award). The award was presented by poet and former Chancellor of the Nepal Academy, Bairagi Kainla at an event held in the capital on Saturday.

The award carries a purse of Rs. 55,555.

Speaking at the event, poet Kaila remarked that Shashi Lumumbu has made a significant contribution to Nepali poetry through his powerful poems. “The Series has selected right person," Kainla said. "As we know Shashi has continually facilitated publication of works by authors in the diaspora. This is indeed commendable.” 

He added that Nepali writers abroad have made a distinctive contribution to the enrichment of Nepali literature through their creative pursuits.

Poet Shrawan Mukarung also acknowledged Lumumbu’s significant role in Nepali literature. “Beyond writing poetry, Lumumbu has made an invaluable contribution through the editing of other writers' works, organising major literary events, and more,” he said.

Daju Gurung, a former coordinator of the Shrinkhala and a writer based in Hong Kong, emphasised the meaningful contribution of Nepali writers and literary figures from Hong Kong to the advancement of Nepali literature. “The capital and the nation seem to overlook this contribution,” he complained.

At the event moderated by Yaseli Yonghang, former coordinator of the Shrinkhala Raman Gurung and advisor DB Palungwa shed light on the current state of Nepali literature in Hong Kong and the ongoing efforts of the Shrinkhala in promoting Nepali literature.
