RPP Chair Lingden against interference on freedom of speech

Kathmandu, June 13: Chairperson of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Rajendra Prasad Lingden has said the government should not meddle with the people's right to freedom of speech.     

In today's meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR), leader Lingden vented ire on the government's act of issuing arrest warrant on the basis of exercising freedom of speech, and writing and urged the executive to refrain from such action.     

It was unconstitutional for the police to detain RPP leader and lawmaker Deepak Bahadur Singh while heading to meet Kamal Thapa – a leader of the constituent of the peaceful protest, he added.     

Lingden further shared that it was a slur in the image of the country for the upper level to charge Rs 50,000 each from those going abroad seeking opportunity for not getting works in the country.     

The opposition party leader also demanded resignation of the Home Minister on moral grounds and enabled environment for the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to freely carry out probe in the political sector.
