Kathmandu, June 12: The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said rainfall has started occurring in various parts of the country with the monsoon winds becoming active.
The Division stated that there is an influence of Westerly winds and local winds in the western and central regions of the country.
Meteorologist Govinda Jha at the Division said that the monsoon winds are active now, and a weather system causing rainfall has developed due to the moisture-laden winds coming from the Bay of Bengal, resulting in moderate to heavy rainfall in various places across the country.
“Currently, the weather is partially to generally cloudy across the country, with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning taking place in areas such as Ilam in the Koshi Province; Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Nuwakot, Kathmandu and Chitwan in the Bagmati Province; Pyuthan and Rolpa in the Lumbini Province; and around Surkhet in the Karnali Province,” he said.
According to him, necessary precaution is advised as heavy rainfall has been occurring in one or two places around Ilam and Bardiya.
The Division has forecast rain in the Kathmandu Valley until Saturday.
The Division said that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in one or two places of Koshi Province, Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province and Lumbini Province until Friday morning.
It also stated that there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall at a few places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi Province, Bagmati Province and Gandaki Province, and at one or two places in the remaining high hilly and mountainous areas.
The Division has urged people to make necessary preparations and maintain vigilance as the heavy rainfall may affect daily life, agriculture, and road and air transportation. (RSS)
