blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June5: Speaker of the House of Representatives Dev Raj Ghimire has said that fine art illustrates history, shows the current state of society, and hints at what needs to be done for the future.

Observing the ongoing ‘National Fine Arts Exhibition’ held at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts on Wednesday, he emphasised that Fine arts is the essence of Nepal’s identity and it should be further promoted nationally and internationally.

During his visit, he also interacted with artists from the endangered Raute community of Karnali Province.

Observing the exhibition, Speaker Ghimire said, “I felt that this exhibition requires ample time to truly appreciate. Bringing artworks from all seven provinces through a competitive process, fostering the development of art there, and then selecting works to be showcased here in itself is a significant initiative.”

He further added, “The artworks have been depicted in a meaningful and artistic way. If Nepal is to be understood and introduced to the world, it should be through the medium of fine art. I believe this exhibition marks the beginning of that process. This beginning must be made historic, and I believe it can and should be,” he added.

The Academy has organised the National Fine Art Exhibition 2082 by selecting artworks competitive, non-competitive, and invited through the Provincial Fine Art Exhibition 2081.

The exhibition features over 650 artworks by 605 artists from 65 districts of the country, covering various genres such as folk art, craft and handicraft, traditional painting, sculpture, architecture, contemporary, modern painting, multidimensional and other creative arts, installations, expressions, photography, video art, digital art, cartoons, and more.

The exhibition began on May 29, runs until June 13.

The exhibition features notable participation from various artistic traditions such as Tharu, Awadhi, Mithila, Newar, Pahadi (hill), Bhojpuri, Tamang, Raute, Dom, Rai, and Kirat communities.
