By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 4: Non-Resident Ambassador of Uruguay to Nepal Alberto A. Guani paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Dipak Khadka.
In the meeting held at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation in Singha Durbar on Tuesday, various issues of cooperation in the energy and irrigation sectors between the two countries were discussed, according to a press statement of the Ministry of Energy.
During the meeting, Energy Minister Khadka said that the government has set a target of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035, and support and cooperation from donor agencies are necessary to achieve this target.
Highly appreciating Uruguay's success in wind and solar energy, he urged to identify the possibilities of technical assistance and investment in Nepal's renewable energy sector.
Nepal sees ample potential for expanding cooperation in trade, investment in the energy sector, sustainable development, and tourism, he said.
During the meeting, Uruguay's Non-Resident Ambassador to Nepal, Guani, said that Uruguay has gained good experience in wind energy and renewable energy and that technology transfer can be exchanged along with that experience.
He said that Nepal's skills, experience and expertise in the field of water resources management can be useful to Uruguay, so experience can be exchanged.
High-ranking employees of the ministry were also present at the meeting.
