By A Staff Reporter.Kathmandu, June 2: A book titled "Swarnakatha Nepali Footballko", chronicling the history of Nepali football, was launched in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Nepal’s renowned footballer Raju Kaji Shakya unveiled the book, written by sports journalist Himesh Ratna Bajracharya, at a special event. Bajracharya has documented the first 75-year journey of Nepali football in this book. It is the first-ever book dedicated to Nepali football.
Published by BookHill, the book covers how the world’s most popular game entered Nepal in 1920 AD. It also highlights Nepal’s gold medal wins in the South Asian Games in 1984 and 1993. Additionally, it discusses key figures who contributed to the growth of Nepali football. The book also highlights the highs and lows of Nepali football.
Speakers at the book launch emphasized that this book is the first comprehensive document on Nepali football. They said it helps readers understand its history. They also mentioned that the book will finally provide an official record of Nepali football history, which lacks until now.
Several notable personalities attended the event. These included Bhupendra Khadka from BookHill, Olympian athlete Santoshi Shrestha, senior journalist Yubaraj Ghimire, and All Nepal Football Association General Secretary Kiran Rai. They spoke about the book’s significance.
Sharing his lifelong passion for football and his dream of publishing this book, author, Himesh said, "My dream has come true. Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey.”
