By Teo Blašković (The watchers), May 30: A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the USGS as M6.2 hit southwest of Africa at 05:36 UTC on May 30, 2025. The agency is reporting a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). EMSC is reporting the same magnitude and depth.
The epicentre was located deep within the South Atlantic Ocean basin, 2,233 km (1,387 miles) SSW of Hermanus, Western Cape, South Africa.
There is no tsunami threat associated with this earthquake.
The USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage.
