Release of Mahabhoj postponed

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 29Producers of Mahabhoj have postponed the release citing the country’s current adverse situation. The film was scheduled to be released nationwide on Thursday.

In light of the ongoing protests and worsening conditions across the country, producer Himal KC issued a press statement on Wednesday announcing the postponement of the film’s release.

The statement reads, “Considering the recent protests spreading throughout the country and the increasingly difficult circumstances affecting daily life, we would like to inform you that the release of the film Mahabhoj has been postponed in Nepal as well as abroad.”

He also added that a new release date will be announced as soon as the situation normalises.

The film unit held a special preview screening on Tuesday evening in Kathmandu. The event was attended by journalists, members of the film unit, and 60 representatives selected from among victims of cooperative fraud from across the country.

During the screening, the atmosphere inside the theatre was deeply emotional. Victims of cooperative scams shared that the film reflected the harsh realities of their own lives.

Directed by Dinesh Raut and produced by Himal Kadariya, the film is written by Bikash Subedi.

Meanwhile, major multiplexes and single-screen theatres across the country had already opened advance bookings for Mahabhoj. According to distributors, the film was scheduled to be screened in about 200 shows nationwide.

Lead cast includes Dayahang Rai, Aryan Sigdel, Khagendra Lamichhane, Anjana Baraili, Malika Mahat, Gaumaya Gurung, Basundhara Bhusal, and Mohan Niraula.

Mahabhoj addresses the serious social issue of cooperative fraud.

A joint presentation by Clock Work Creation and Picture Frame, the film was also set for a simultaneous release in several countries alongside its release in Nepal.
