'Development of energy sector essential for country's economic prosperity'

Damauli, May 22: Former Energy Minister and Nepali Congress Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said development of energy sector was indispensable for the economic prosperity of the country.    

While carrying out on-site inspection of the 140-MW under construction Tanahun Hydropower Project this morning, he stressed the need of taking the nation ahead in the path of prosperity by utilizing the water resources available in the country maximum.    

The country could be made prosperous by selling electricity and industrial development was possible through energy, mentioned former Minister Mahat, laying emphasis the need of completing the hydropower project on time to make country self-reliant in energy.    

He pointed out the need of using electric vehicles to reduce the import of petroleum products. Leader Mahat also inspected the powerhouse of the project.    
On the occasion, Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari briefed the former Energy Minister about progress of the project made so far. (RSS)
