Kathmandu, May 17: Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli has said that it is not possible to bring those who have turned to many directions into leftist unity without right ideology.

At a program organized at Madannagar Balkhu today to commemorate UML's then General Secretary Madan Bhadari and Organization Department Chief Jibaraj Ashrit, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that unity should not be mere unity but should be about bringing others into the party by making them agree with right ideas.

“The tendency to oppose even the right thing and create discord has been evident in the communist movement since history. Even though there was no real ideological difference divisive lines were drawn based on personal interests,” Oli said. The idea of people's multi-party democracy brought under the leadership of Madan Bhandari has been established as a national policy not only for political democracy but also in economic, social and human rights issues.

It is on the same foundation that we must work to fulfill the national aspiration of a prosperous Nepal, happy Nepalis, he added.

Prime Minister Oli stated efforts have been made to establish people's rule with the belief that the people are the source of power and clarified that the party have never left the path of patriotism, national independence and integrity. "Any attempt to revert to monarchy is impossible and unacceptable," he said and urged the cadres to move forward with unity and confidently.

Stating that the UML is adopting a policy of active intervention rather than passive aspiration for progress, he mentioned that the movement has suffered loss due to right-wing extremism and anarchism in the world. He also commented that it was a wrong practice to topple the government due to the divisive elements within the party and to form the government through court orders.

He recalling that popular leader Bhandari was a policy strategist who led the communist movement in a timely manner and made it possible for the party to become popular and achieve a two-thirds majority under his ideological leadership, even though the communist movement across the world was collapsing.

Former President and widow of late Bhandari, Bidya Devi Bhandari, UML Senior Vice President Ishwor Pokharel, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, widow of leader Ashrit, Maya Gyawali and others participated in the program.

On the occasion, leaders and cadres of the party including Chair Oli paid tributes to the late leaders. (RSS)
