By Radha Luitel,Phidim, May 17: A captivating new tourist destination has emerged in Battise Falls, located in Ward No. 2 of Falgunanda Rural Municipality, Panchthar.
The destination, named ‘Battise Resort’, has been developed with an investment of nearly Rs. 15 million by a local, Prem Limbu, who is currently employed in South Korea.
Situated approximately 500 metres uphill from the Mechi Highway, near the scenic Battise Falls, the resort features artistically designed cottages, homestay facilities, traditional wooden swings, ponds, and miniature houses specially built for birds. A well-maintained garden adorned with various flowers and plants further enhances its charm. The natural beauty of the nearby Battise Falls adds to the allure of the location.
The resort also includes a small zoo housing more than 15 species of animals and birds. More than a dozen unique structures have been built, including Himalayan-themed sculptures and wooden swings, making the area even more attractive to visitors.
Visitors are particularly drawn by the use of local products, traditional cuisine, fresh vegetables, and the peaceful, clean environment. The region’s evergreen cool climate makes it a popular choice for tourists throughout the year.
On Saturdays, families and office groups frequently visit the area. On an average day, around 30 visitors arrive, while public holidays can attract up to 100 domestic and a few international tourists.
Locals say the tourism potential is high, given Battise Falls’ accessibility to nearby attractions such as Ranke, Pauwa Bhanjyang, and Sukepokhari.
Battise Resort has become a model for tourism development in Panchthar, having been built through a harmonious blend of natural beauty, local resources, and hard work. The resort is managed by Prem Limbu’s wife, Renuka Rai.
With its appealing structures and family-friendly atmosphere, the area has recently become a favourite among domestic tourists. Chairman of Falgunanda Rural Municipality, Brijahang Angdembwe, remarked that the various constructions in Battise have significantly contributed to drawing in visitors.
