By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 17: Nepal has booked their spot in the Super Three stage of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier after the final league clash between Hong Kong and Bahrain was washed out in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday.
Nepal's hopes of progressing to the next stage remained alive after they clinically chased down Bahrain’s target to secure a six-wicket victory on Thursday. Across four matches, Nepal registered two wins, suffered one defeat, and had one game abandoned, accumulating five points.
Hong Kong also finished with five points after their fixture against Bahrain was abandoned due to rain.
However, Nepal topped the standings on superior match wins, having secured two victories compared to Hong Kong's solitary win. Bahrain, meanwhile, ended their campaign with just two points from four matches.
Nepal, UAE, and Thailand will now battle it out for a place in the Global Qualifiers. In the Super Three stage, each team will face the others once, with points from the previous round carrying forward. The top two sides at the end of this phase will punch their ticket to the Global Qualifiers.
Nepal is set to lock horns with UAE on May 19 before taking on hosts Thailand on May 20 at the Terdthai Cricket Ground.
