Morang Chamber demands regular power supply

blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 16: The Chamber of Industries, Morang (CIM) has demanded the Nepal Electricity Authority to make arrangement for the regular supply of electricity in different industrial corridors.

Issuing a press statement, the CIM has drawn attention of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to the fact that the Sunsari-Morang, Biratnagar-Rani, Biratnagar-Katahari industrial corridors are currently experiencing power supply disruptions for eight to 10 hours daily.

The CIM has urged the NEA to be sensitive, saying that the power cuts happening without prior notice are disrupting the regular operation of industries and businesses, forcing them to reduce production and incurring financial losses of millions of rupees daily.

It expressed regret over the fact that the regulatory body has not come up with a concrete plan for a long-term solution despite the organisation's repeated attention over the problems faced by the industries during the dry season every year.

President of CIM Rakesh Surana said that private sector has felt oppressed by the NEA's tendency to not take the problems of industry and business seriously.

Although it was expected that the new leadership of the NEA would focus on regular supply and quality improvement of electricity supply, the NEA did not show much interest in that regard and focused on profit and loss, which has further affected the industry and business, said Surana.

The industry and business sectors are suffering from double blow due to the increase in electricity tariffs during the dry season and the lack of continuous electricity supply during the dry season, he said.

He has demanded the NEA to make a long-term solution of electricity supply and arrange regular supply taking the difficulties faced by the industry and business sector seriously due to the lack of continuous electricity supply during the dry season and the negative impact this has had on the value chain of the entire industrial sector.
