Kathmandu, May 15: Lawmakers have extended best wishes along with suggestions to make Sagarmatha Sambaad effective. The three-day event is taking place in Kathmandu from tomorrow.
In today's meeting of the House of Representatives, they shared that Sagarmatha Sambaad is a significant opportunity to advocate about loss and damage facing by Nepal due to climate induced disasters, stressing the need to take it seriously.
On the occasion, Ishwori Gharti laid emphasis the need of utilizing Sagarmatha Sambaad as an important opportunity to advocating with developed countries on the issue of providing climate finance for climate justice.
Similarly, Prabhu Sah expressed dissatisfaction over non-participation of high-level delegates of other countries in Sagarmatha Sambaad. He stressed the need of making the event effective.
Likewise, Purna Bahadur Gharti inquired about government's preparation for constitution amendment.
"Constitution amendment issue has been raised since the formation of the incumbent government. But the matters and articles of the constitution for the amendment have not been finalized yet. It is necessary to amend the constitution through consensus of all parties after holding discussion on it", he argued.
Hari Dhakal complained that the practice and delay in appointment of governor at the Nepal Rastra Bank has tarnished the reputation of the Bank.
Similarly, Bina Lama drew government's attention for overall development including road, bridge construction in Dhading district and stressed the need of making rules and regulations for preservation, exploration and processing of minerals.
Metmani Chaudhary demanded constitution amendment with a constitutional provision of allowing a person to be Prime Minister only for two terms while Ram Prakash Chaudhary demanded the government to allocate sufficient amount of budget in Madhes Province in coming budget.
Ranjita Shrestha drew government's attention for upgrading of Tikapur airport and asked the government to expand the airport in order to operate commercial flights from it.
Likewise, lawmakers Prem Suwal, Sita Mijar and Ishwor Bahadur Rijal, Sita Kumari Rana, Shanti Chaudhary, Sudan Kirati, Sunita Baral, Sumana Shrestha, Surendra Raj Acharya and Sushila Thing also put their views on contemporary issues on the occasion.
MPs call for upgrading roadways before start of monsoon
Meanwhile speaking during the 'zero hour' of the meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, lawmakers called attention of the government on a plethora of issues related to public amenities like construction of roads, water supply, improvement of irrigation facilities and livelihood, including the need to curb market inflation.
They called for completing the maintenance, upgrading, and construction of the roads before the start of the monsoon.
Those airing their views in this line were Bina Lama of Rastriya Prajatantra Party; Bimalendra Nidhi, Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Shanti BK, Santosh Chalise, Saraswati Bajimaya of the Nepali Congress; Shiva Nepali and Shishir Khanal of Rastriya Swatantra Party; Sher Bahadur Kunwar of CPN (Unified Socialist); and Samjhana Thapaliya, Saraswati Subba, Saraj Ahamad and Sarita Bhusal of the CPN (UML).
