Govt. arrears surges to Rs 1284 billion; Rs 92.59 billion more in 2080/81 alone

Kathmandu, May 14: The arrears of government offices and state-run corporations from all three tiers of government have reached Rs 1284 billion.     

The 62nd annual report of the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) made public today showed a steady rise in the amount of arrears. The last fiscal year alone witnessed a rise by Rs 91.59 billion.     

The updated outstanding payment is increased by 9.45 percent compared to the last fiscal year, adds the report.     

The money to be recovered is categorized under different sections- auditing, revenue, foreign grant to be reimbursed, and settlement of loan.     

Among the updated arrears, the federal government offices owe Rs 375.47 billion, while of the provincial government offices it is Rs 30.48 billion and of local government offices it is Rs 2.28 billion. Similarly, the state-run corporations hold arrears of Rs 1.94 billion.(RSS)
