Birendranagar (Surkhet), May 13: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said the government has not interfered on press freedom.
At a programme organized on the
occasion of the silver jubilee of Yugaahwan National Daily here today, Minister
Gurung argued that some sections of society have misinterpreted the Social
Media Regulation Bill.
Stating that anarchy and disorder
has increased in the country in the name of press freedom, he stressed that the
incumbent government is active to control it.
The Communications Minister opined,
"It is necessary to regulate it and we are in preparation to make Mass
Communication Bill."
He stressed that any media should
not carry out activities foiling the social and racial harmony, adding Social
Media Regulation Bill would be passed soon.
Sharing that cybercrime has increased due to
online, Minister Gurung mentioned that more than 40,000 cybercrime related
cases have been registered.
No one is exempted from spreading
illusion in the society in the name of using social media and freedom of
expression, he stressed. (RSS)
