BP Highway disrupted, one woman goes missing

Kavrepalanchok, May 13: The BP highway has been blocked for eight hours after the Roshi River in Mapti on the BP Highway flooded and washed away a diversion on Monday night, triggered by the incessant rainfall.

District Police Office, efforts are underway to resume the disrupted highway.

 According to the information officer of the office, Deputy Superintendent of Police Min Bahadur Ghale, it has been difficult to resume the highway after the flood further damaged the Mangalatar-bound road in Roshi Rural Municipality -12 at night.

He said that attempts are being made by the police team and locals to at least resume the one-way on the highway since this morning.

A temporary diversion was constructed at the site when the highway was washed away by floods in October 2024.

Police said they rescued 17 stranded passengers on the highway.

Meanwhile, the police said that the search for a woman who went missing in the floods following incessant rainfall on Monday afternoon has resumed today.

 Renuka Giri, aged 33, a resident of Subbagaun in Panauti Municipality-5, went missing after being swept away by the Dhalam River at 6:00 PM.

According to the office, the search was suspended after a continuous search from the police team and locals until late Monday night.
