By Laxman Paudel,Bhairahawa, May 10: Goods worth about Rs. 770 million have been exported from the Bhairahawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the first nine months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.
After the industries established in the SEZ increased their production, exports witnessed a significant progress.
While goods worth Rs. 1.33 billion were produced in the industries operating in the Bhairahawa SEZ by mid-April 2025 this fiscal year, goods worth Rs. 768 million were exported during that period.
According to Sumit Dumre, Chief Engineer of Bhairahawa SEZ, the production and export rates of the 10 industries currently operating on the SEZ premises are better than the previous fiscal year.
In the fiscal year 2023/24, goods worth Rs. 916 million were produced and goods worth Rs. 603.6 million were exported.
There are 68 plots in the Bhairahawa SEZ, which is spread over 52 bighas of land. In the SEZ, where industries have been built since 2016, Shakti Minerals Pvt. Ltd. has started exporting its products abroad since 2019. Other industries have started production since then.
Bhairahawa SEZ houses industries such as Jayabuddha Metal Craft, Panchakanya Steel Tank, Shakti Minerals, Vistaar Global Pvt. Ltd., S Polymers, Tirupati Metal Craft, Brilliant Lighting RC Industry Pvt. Ltd., Himalaya Granitic, Eco Nepal Energy and Himalaya Eco Pvt. Ltd.
Four new industries including Swastik Udyog and Spot Electric are under construction in the SEZ.
Established in 2019, Shakti Minerals Pvt. Ltd. has produced goods worth Rs. 110 million by mid-April 2025 of the current fiscal year. The company produces crusher-related products.
Similarly, it processes limestone from Palpa and sells it as raw materials to the cement industry. It also produces raw materials required to make calcium for the chicken feed industry.
According to the SEZ management, this industry has exported 49 per cent of its total production in the current fiscal year.
Established in 2020, Vistaar Global Pvt. Ltd. manufactures steel utensils. It has produced goods worth Rs. 720 million in the current fiscal year and has exported 88 per cent of its production.
Dumre said that this is the highest in terms of export value. Brilliant Lighting in the SEZ produces LED lights. It has exported 34 per cent of its total production.
According to the latest rules, industries established in the SEZ have to export at least 30 per cent of their products after three years of establishment.
Tirupati Metal Craft in the SEZ has exported 16 per cent of its total production. This industry produces lead for batteries.
Panchakanya Steel Tank has now stopped production citing technical reasons, but 92 per cent of the stock produced here has been exported.
Similarly, Jayabuddha Metal Craft is an old industry of the SEZ, but it is now closed. The RC industry established in the SEZ is a new industry. RC processes the lead from old batteries and produces new lead.
According to SEZ, it has exported 14 per cent of its total production. When the SEZ was operated, the rent was Rs. 150 per square meter, but it has now been reduced to Rs 20.
The export quota for manufactured goods has been reduced from 75 per cent to 30 per cent, and after the expansion of other facilities available to the industrialists in the SEZ, industrialists have shown interest in establishing the industry.
