By Our Correspondent,Sarlahi, May 8: Litchi of the Tropical Horticulture Centre in Nawalpur, Sarlahi has been sold right at a time of bearing fruit.
The litchi planted in the garden of horticulture centre is now growing.
The litchi of the country's largest horticulture centre was sold for Rs. 2.83 million this year, said acting chief of the centre Ram Kumar Yadav.
This price at which horticulture's litchi was sold is the highest so far.
A notice was published on April 9 that litchi would be sold for a minimum of 2.551 million.
According to the notice, among the applications that were registered, Narwada Suppliers, Hariwon-7 has accepted the highest litchi contract so far for Rs. 2.825 million, said Yadav.
The centre had sold litchi at Rs. 2.71 million last year.
This year, the contract was awarded at a higher price due to the increase in litchi production, said Yadav.
The tropical horticulture centre, spread over an area of 8.5 hectares, has 621 litchi trees of nine different varieties.
The centre has already published a notice for the sale of mangoes for this year.
The horticulture centre said that the notice has been published with a minimum selling price of Rs. 7.12 million for mangoes.
The horticulture centre has 6,000 mango trees in 100 bighas of land.
The contractors sell the litchis and mangoes produced at the horticulture centre at local markets, Kathmandu and elsewhere.
