By Our Correspondent,Siddharthnagar, May 5: Local White Peking ducklings have been distributed to farmers of Tilottama Municipality-17 of Rupandehi.
The municipality has distributed ducklings to the farmers based on the demand and cost sharing.
The ducklings were distributed to the locals with the aim of commercialising traditional duck farming in the area and making the ward residents healthy under the Nutrition Improvement Programme and Duck Promotion Programme, said Raju Kunwar Magar, chief of livestock branch of the municipality.
Magar said that about 2,080 ducklings were distributed to 104 farmers in the ward.
Keeping its budget within its policies and programmes, Tilottama Municipality distributed ducklings to farmers in the area to raise ducks even in rice fields, said Ram Krishna Khand, mayor of the municipality.
Mayor Khand said that the municipality has distributed local ducklings, especially those with high meat content at 75 per cent subsidy.
He that at least 20 duck chicks and feed for the first phase were provided free of cost based on the cages and ability of the locals to raise them.
Speaking on the occasion, Ward Chairman of Tilottama Municipality-17 Dan Bahadur Chaudhary said that the target is to distribute ducklings to 300 families.
He said that this will improve the living standards of the locals and provide a new taste of local duck meat to domestic and foreign tourists visiting the area.
Recently, the demand for duck meat and eggs has been increasing due to health reasons, he said.
