Galkot (Baglung), April 16: The Baglung Municipality has implemented a plan to collect waste from the origin and sell it after processing it at the landfill site.
The municipality has already constructed a model landfill site to reuse the waste collected in the municipality area and treat other waste.
In order to solve the problem of waste management for half a decade in the long term, the municipality has given the responsibility of waste treatment to The Equality Campaign Nepal.
Municipality Mayor Basanta Kumar Shrestha said that the municipality has signed an agreement with Equality Campaign Nepal for waste management.
According to him, 15,000 dustbins have been distributed across the town for garbage collection from the origin. Chandra Kanta Paudel and Baglung Municipality Mayor Shrestha signed an agreement to construct a model waste treatment plant at a cost of Rs 367.7 million.
According to Shrestha, Rs 367.7 million will be spent to manage the waste. He said five per cent of the financial burden would be borne by the municipality and 95 per cent by the Campaign'.
Stating that the waste dumped at Maldhunga of Baglung-1 would be managed, he said the waste management centre would be developed as a site for study and observation on waste management techniques and also as a tourist destination.(RSS)
