A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 15: The release date for the upcoming film Pahad, directed by veteran filmmaker Tulsi Ghimire, has been officially announced. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on October 24, the day after Tihar.
The story of Pahad focuses on the harsh social and economic consequences that arise when the younger generation migrates abroad for employment, leaving the hills empty and abandoned. The film aims to portray this bitter social reality, according to director and writer Tulsi Ghimire.
“We finalised the release date after discussions with the distributor,” said Ghimire. “We aimed for a date that aligns with both domestic and international release schedules while also allowing enough time to complete our remaining work. Since the film carries a family-oriented theme, we have chosen a time when people can enjoy it with their families.”
The film was shot over 36 days in Gorkha, Nepal, and the remaining 10 days of shooting will be completed in Mumbai, India, this Baisakh. Known for acclaimed films like Balidan and for working with artists such as Madan Krishna Shrestha in Chino, Ghimire believes the collaboration between experienced and new actors will produce a meaningful result. He noted that new actors have shown the same level of dedication toward their characters as the veterans.
He added, “The film covers the story of hilly regions that have become depopulated. While watching the film, viewers will feel a personal connection and see their own stories in it. I’m excited to work with talents from both the older and younger generations.”
Produced by Ojaswi KC, Pahad features cinematography by Pramod Pradhan, who has previously collaborated with Ghimire on films like Anyaya, Koseli, Chino and Dakshina. Pradhan has also worked on films, web series and television projects in India.
Under the banner of Bhagyaratna Films Pvt. Ltd., the movie stars Bipin Karki, Sunil Thapa, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Renunath Yogi, Arun Kshetri, Rabindra Singh Baniya and Salona Bajracharya, among others. Director Ghimire is also introducing his youngest daughter, Panchami Ghimire, as a debut actress in this film. His eldest daughter, Bhavana Ghimire, is working as a production designer.
The music is directed by Ranjan Raj Gajmer, with Bharati Ghimire serving as the creative director. Rimpoche Bham Thing and Parash Bham are co-producers. In Nepal, the film will be distributed by Bankatesh Entertainment and internationally by 7 Seas International.
